Ukrainian soldiers who suffered catastrophic injuries in Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine are getting rehabilitative treatment in Maryland.
Ukrainian healthcare facilities are stretched to the limit and Russia has gone out of its way to bomb Ukrainian hospitals. So now some Ukrainian soldiers requiring artificial limbs and specialized treatment are being cared for in the US.

Catastrophic injuries can result in severe long-term or lifelong disabilities. Car crashes are a common cause of catastrophic events, often due to distraction or intoxication.

I saw your tags on your Percy Jackson post and I would LOVE to hear your thoughts on the Umbrella Academy 👀👀👀
The tags: #i think both types of stories work#you just have to be CONSISTENT about it [side-eyes umbrella academy]
There's a lot I like about Umbrella Academy, and there's a lot that I forgive in Umbrella Academy because it's a comic book adaptation and most comics have similar problems. BUT.
In S2E9, when the Handler shoots live ammo from a real gun at a child, it's portrayed as sweet and harmless —bullets are just background noise (e.g. James Bond) and this show has slapstick stakes. In S2E10, when the Handler shoots from a real gun at six adults, they have a graphic drawn-out death scene — bullets kill people (e.g. Pulp Fiction) and this is a much darker type of show.
Klaus gets kidnapped and murdered in S1, and his siblings roll their eyes about how he's irresponsible. Klaus gets accidentally killed in S3, and his siblings react with devastation and horror. Violence is funny, when it's Five killing 20 of his coworkers. Violence is horrifying, when it's Viktor killing Pogo. So on.
You can't have it both ways. It creates mood whiplash. It makes the characters feel callous. It can feel like no events ever matter, so there's no point in caring. I can't tell how seriously to take any given scene, because the same sequence of actions is sometimes treated as comedy and sometimes as tragedy.

Understanding Bad Faith Insurance Practices in Florida, New Jersey, and New York
Tumblr media
What is Bad Faith Insurance?
Bad faith insurance practices involve an insurer's intentional refusal to honor its contractual obligations to the policyholder. This occurs when an insurance company fails to act in good faith and fair dealing, which it is legally required to do. Bad faith can be both first-party (directly against the policyholder) and third-party (against a party making a claim against the policyholder).
How Does Bad Faith Occur?
Bad faith can occur through various deliberate actions by the insurer, including:
Misrepresentation of Policy Terms: Insurers may intentionally misrepresent the terms of the policy to deny coverage.
Improper Investigation: Conducting a biased or incomplete investigation to justify denying a claim.
Unreasonable Denial or Delay: Denying or delaying payment without a reasonable basis.
Lowball Offers: Offering settlements far below the claim's actual value.
Florida Law
Under Florida Statutes §624.155, an insurer can be held liable for bad faith if it fails to settle claims when it could and should have done so, had it acted fairly and honestly toward its insured and with due regard for their interests.
New Jersey Law
In New Jersey, the "fairly debatable" standard applies, meaning the insurer must demonstrate a reasonable basis for denying a claim. The case of Pickett v. Lloyd’s, 131 N.J. 457 (1993), is a pivotal ruling that requires insurers to justify their actions reasonably.
New York Law
In New York, proving bad faith requires showing that the insurer engaged in egregious conduct or a pattern of unfair practices, as established in Pavia v. State Farm Mutual Auto. Ins. Co., 82 N.Y.2d 445 (1993). This case demonstrates the high burden of proof required to establish bad faith.

What to Do If You Suspect Bad Faith
If you believe your insurance company is acting in bad faith, take the following steps:
Understand Your Policy: Review your insurance policy to understand your coverage and rights.
Document Everything: Keep detailed records of all communications with your insurer, including emails, letters, and phone calls.
File a Complaint: You can file a complaint with your state's insurance regulatory agency. In Florida, this is the Florida Office of Insurance Regulation; in New Jersey, it's the New Jersey Department of Banking and Insurance; and in New York, it's the New York State Department of Financial Services.
Seek Legal Advice: Consult with an experienced attorney who specializes in insurance bad faith claims. They can help you understand your rights and take appropriate legal action.

State-Specific Tips
Handling bad faith insurance claims varies significantly depending on the state.
Each jurisdiction has its own laws, procedures, and standards that affect how these cases are approached. Below, we provide specific tips for Florida, New Jersey, and New York to help you effectively address bad faith practices in your state. These tailored insights will help you take appropriate action and protect your rights based on your location.
Florida Tip
In Florida, policyholders have the right to file a Civil Remedy Notice (CRN) with the Department of Financial Services. This notice gives the insurer 60 days to resolve the issue before a lawsuit can be filed (Fla. Stat. §624.155).
New Jersey Tip
In New Jersey, keeping meticulous records of all interactions with the insurer is crucial for building a strong case under the "fairly debatable" standard. Refer to the case Pickett v. Lloyd’s, 131 N.J. 457 (1993), for guidance on how courts assess these claims.
New York Tip
In New York, due to the high burden of proof required to establish bad faith, it is essential to gather substantial evidence of the insurer's egregious conduct or pattern of unfair practices. Refer to Pavia v. State Farm Mutual Auto. Ins. Co., 82 N.Y.2d 445 (1993) for more details on the legal standards applied in these cases.

Ngl, studying history, especially contemporary history often about how powerful countries played a roll in sabotaging a developing nation, means a few times a day you see a post posted by someone who obviously doesn’t study history but is using a historical event to further a political point (that I usually agree with but it is completely out of context and usually super disrespectful) and it will literally have thousands of likes and you just have to learn to sigh and move on.
#this applies to all social media but this post is specifically from a post I just saw#when I say it took twenty horrific historical events#being super vague about the event to once again further a point#literally there were a few that I was like okay I get the point but I don’t know what specific event this could even be referring to#and a lot of these posts ultimately make points I agree with#that you can have many historical examples to further back up their point#but then it’s taken completely out of context#erasing the suffering and deaths of thousands of people in the events they’re describing#and it’s just#using genocide dictators and devastating proxy wars or war in general started under false pretense#that resulted in the unjust injury or death of thousands possibly millions#should not be casually mentioned once in a sentence to prove a point#it’s disgustingly disrespectful and usually distorts what the historical event was by describing it in a simple sentence#the post that inspired this literally listed like 30 countries which each having absolutely devastating history perpetuated by the us#but op says nothing more than us as wronged this country this country that country ect#to go on to defend another point (that I agree with)!!!!!#I cannot stress how misleading and disrespectful it is to bring up a historical event#especially a catastrophic event#mentjon it once and then move on to make a point#it undermines your point because you see it as nothing more than a summary#it makes me want to scream#rae’s rambles

Cat #16
[ID: An Indian ink and watercolor drawing of Néo, a tabby cat, while she is eating. On her side, up the thigh, a large patch of hair has been shaven and at the center of it is a neatly sewn bite wound. End ID.]
So my mom just texted me this picture saying "So that's the result", like mom that's my baby what happened to her.
So there's a new cat in the garden and she's gorgeous but also a bitch, she got into the house the other day. She gets along with Che but she attacked my baby so she's now banned from the house.

And now I have the mental image of Remus (Gymrat or iZombie, particularly) as a kid having a FANTASTIC time on one of those playground merry-go-rounds.
Just the absolute joy of the kid on one of those things, man.
... followed by the mental image of at least the kid letting go while on it and face-planted in the ground nearby. And just laughing his ass off while also crying and bleeding.
A very good lesson in physics.
(Not me thinking about when i did that on a twisty rope swing once. Totally. Granted I think Remus would absolutely wreck himself worse than I did - just greater centrifugal forces at play.)
